Engaging Indigenous Elders and Knowledge Keepers

May 5, 2021 @ 11:45 AM - 1:00 PM

Learn how, why, and when to engage Indigenous Elders and Knowledge Keepers.

Indigenous Elders and Knowledge Keepers are valued leaders in their communities but why is it important to engage them in your projects? When do you contact them? And how do you ensure you are doing it with respect and offering them proper compensation? Brad Bellegarde is the Cultural Diversity and Indigenous Relations Advisor for the City of Regina and the co-chair of the National Indigenous Peoples’ Day Celebrations in Regina and area and he will open up the discussion to give you a greater understanding of these important people in Indigenous communities.

SPEAKER: Brad Bellegarde who is a member of the Little Black Bear First Nation and is a nationally published journalist having written articles featured in the Globe and Mail, Toronto Star, Ottawa Citizen, Huffington Post and CBC. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Brad, also known as InfoRed, is a nationally recognized Hip Hop artist having performed live on national television as well as in Vancouver for the 2009 Cultural Olympiad and also for His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales and his wife the Duchess of Cornwall during their 2012 Royal Visit to Canada.
