Candace Kyrzyk

Co-VP, Professional Development

When it comes to communications and professional development, Candace is very well versed. She’s held a myriad of communications positions throughout her career, including work in graphic design, bookkeeping, and social media management. She’s currently the Director Client Service at Brown Communications Group, where she manages campaigns for clients in both private and public sectors.

A life-long learner, Candace recently completed a certificate in Indigenous Canada from the University of Alberta. She’s also completed her IAP2 Foundations in Public Participation course, which fuels her passion for energized and engaging communications.

Don’t be surprised to find Candace at your local Starbucks or sushi spot. Outside the office, this dog mom of two loves camping, road tripping, conquering new Peloton app workouts, and cheering on sports teams from her hometown of Winnipeg.

Julie Sobowale

Co-VP, Communications & Technology

Julie is an experienced and energetic communicator. She is currently the Director of Communications for the Law Society of Saskatchewan, where she manages strategic communications, marketing and stakeholder engagement. Her communications experience includes managing marketing campaigns for the Ottawa Business Journal and running communications for the Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists. In her spare time, she’s reading a good book after her daily yoga session.

Shannon Kotylak, CMP

Co-VP, Communications & Technology

As a curious lifelong learner, Shannon is pumped for her second year on the board for IABC Regina. She has been in the communications and marketing field for almost two decades, obviously having started as a very young child. She currently brings her love of Oxford commas and em dashes to Campion College at the University of Regina and in her spare time, she also teaches business and microcredentials at Saskatchewan Polytechnic. She holds an undergraduate degree in Anthropology (ask her about it over an adult beverage) and an MBA, specializing in women in leadership. She has also received her CMP certification and completed the Indigenous Canada certificate from the University of Alberta.

As a passionate volunteer, she also sits on the board of Dress for Success Regina, the organizing committee for National Indigenous Peoples' Day, and several other committees because giving back to our community empowers others! When taking a moment to breathe, Shannon spends time with her daughter, their cats, their couch, and usually some ice cream while watching RuPaul.

Paula Kohl, ABC

Chair, Certification

Paula has been involved with IABC Regina at various points through her career, with her recent contributions as Certification Chair. She contributed to the launch of Certification and has been the contact for IABC Regina members ever since. Paula previously held board positions from 2005 to 2008 and was a mentor in the 2014 Mentorship Challenge. Paula achieved her Accredited Business Communicator designation in 2011.

Paula currently holds the position of Director, Corporate Communication at FCC, where she leads the internal, media relations and linguistic services teams. In her previous position as Director, Marketing and Communication at Regina Exhibition Association Limited (operator of Evraz Place), Paula was part of the opening of Mosaic Stadium and the International Trade Centre. She also oversaw public engagement and the early stages of a multi-year strategy that will see Evraz Place evolve into a vibrant entertainment district. Prior to this, Paula led an award-winning team of communicators at SaskPower as their Manager of External Communication.

A good TV show paired with popcorn and an oaky Chardonnay in the proper wine glass are Paula's true pleasures in life. She is currently studying Level 3 of the Wine and Spirit Education Trust certification program, which is like becoming a sommelier but without serving people in a restaurant setting. Her retirement goal is to be a wine educator and communicator in the Okanagan. Wine and communication truly are the perfect pairing!
